My Mobile Worship Space Made Me Wonder

Do you ever get in the car and the song that you need at the exact moment is the one that comes on? This happens to me often.

My car is a mobile worship space for me. If I’m driving, I’m probably singing along with Megan Woods or bumping some old-school Toby Mac.

There’s another story here about why if you pull up next to me at a stoplight, I’m probably having a dance party or getting completely wrecked to a worship song, but I’ll leave that for another blog post.

Earlier this week, I was pulling out of my driveway, heading to church. The first song that came on was “God Only Knows” by For King & Country, the version they recorded with Dolly Parton. Here’s the link to the YouTube Video.

Grab a tissue before you click.

As I did my best rendition of the tune, an attempt to honor Dolly, I began to wonder: what was it about her that was so endearing? She was unapologetically unique in her style.

Most people have a love-it-or-hate-it reaction to country music, yet she was welcomed, rewarded, and renowned across the globe. Why?

She didn’t conform by succumbing to the latest fashion. She didn’t get involved with a popular athlete or become the focus of gossip headlines.

She was authentically Dolly.

How have we been quickly united in mourning her death and celebrating her accomplishments when agreement on almost anything is so unheard of these days?

I don’t have the answer, but it’s worth considering.

What else could bring us together, even if just for a moment, that could allow us to rejoice, celebrate, and perhaps show others kindness as a result?

This, I do have an answer for.

My life was drastically changed when I chose to be united with someone because of their death. Jesus. The more I learned about Him, the more I understood why life should be a continuous worship song of rejoicing, celebrating, and showing others kindness.

And now I’m making a point of sharing that with others, even at stoplights. I invite you to reach out so we can learn about Him together. Jesus is the magnetic glue that can bring us together.

He may not have big hair and sparkly clothes, but He does have the ability to stop us in our tracks with His voice.

Friends, if you want to know more about Jesus, reach out to me by e-mail at contact@janisjakino.com.

Let’s grow together.

Blessings,

JJ
